It is said that Pancham had known Pandit Shivkumar Sharma since 1961 and they used to hang out frequently due to their common interest in classical music. They used to often have dinner together and go for long drives listening to classical music.
Apparently Pandit Shivkumar Sharma used to play tabla before he started focusing solely on Santoor and it was only on Pancham's insistence that he played the tabla in S.D.Burmans Guide for the song "mose chal kiye jaaye". He never accompanied anyone else on tabla before or after that but he did this one song because Pancham had requested him to.
In fact, such was their friendship that Pandit Shivkumar Sharma named his son Rahul after Rahul Dev Burman.
Enjoy the song and the tabla
Mose Chal kiye jaaye
